This course is in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and meets the needs of Ofsted and Education Scotland.
The course is delivered to a maximum of 12 people, and Child & Baby (C & B) Focussed. Everyone will receive a course book. By the end of the course, successful candidates will be able to:
• Be able to assess an emergency situation and prioritise what action to take • Unresponsive and breathing normally
• Unresponsive and not breathing normally
• Seizure
• Choking
• Bleeding
• Shock caused by severe blood loss
• Anaphylactic shock
• Electric shock
• Burns and Scalds
• Cones & Muscles
• Head, neck or back injuries
• Poisoning
• Eyes, ears or nose
• Bites and Stings
• Effects of extreme heat or cold
•Diabetic emergency
•Asthma attack
•Febrile convulsion
•Meningitis.
• Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider (including appropriate contents of a first aid box and the need for recording accidents and incidents)
Certification is dependent on successful continuous assessment of the student, there is no final exam. Those students who complete the course and are deemed to have reached the required standard are issued with a certificate that is valid for three years.
