This one day first aid course covers what to do in an emergency situation with babies and young children. It is for anyone working with and caring for babies and young children.
The course is delivered to a maximum of 12 people.
By the end of the course, successful candidates will be able to:
• Understand the role and responsibility of a first aider.
• Assess an incident including conducting a primary survey.
• Help an infant or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally.
• Help an infant or child who is unresponsive and NOT breathing normally.
• Help an infant or child who is having a seizure.
• Recognise and assist an infant or child who is choking.
• Help an infant or child who is wounded and bleeding.
• Recognise and help an infant or child who is in shock.
• Help an infant or child with burns or scalds.
• Help an infant or child with a suspected fracture.
• Help a child with a head, neck or back injury.
Certification is dependent on successful continuous assessment of the student, there is no final exam. Those students who complete the course and are deemed to have reached the required standard are issued with a certificate that is valid for three years.
